Lobster bisque, Scottish salmon and veal with cream for dinner by the river at Storchen in Zurich

Last week in Switzerland, living a #Travelife, we had dinner at the fine dining restaurant of the Storchen, a luxury hotel in Zurich with a great location and over 650 years of history.

We were only in Zurich overnight on a stopover on the way to the French side of Switzerland from Munich, and I’d booked the Storchen, a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts, because I wanted a quiet and quietly luxurious hotel in the center of Zurich.

I also wanted to eat the Storchen restaurant again, and I didn’t want to walk out or drive or get a cab to get to the restaurant after a long drive from Munich, so staying at the Storchen and eating there was the perfect arrangement.

A VERY TRADITIONAL SWISS HOTEL

As mentioned earlier, The Storchen is one of Zurich’s top luxury hotels and also its oldest. It has two good restaurants: a highly-rated rotisserie and bar on the ground floor and a Swiss-style fine dining restaurant with formal service, lovely flowers and wood-paneled ceilings and walls.

It really gives a nice feeling of being in Switzerland, and it’s a great favourite of well-heeled locals and regular visitors to Zurich — especially those looking for traditional dishes.

RESTAURANT BY THE RIVER
IN ZURICH

We had a very nice table by the window, affording a beautiful view of Zurich as the sun slowly set.

I ordered the Storchen aperitif to start, and this was a wonderful mix of rose wine with soda water and some other flavours. It was terribly addicting.

THE CLASSIC DISHES
AT STORCHEN IN ZURICH

For my meal, I decided to go with all the Storchen classics. This hotel has been making these dishes for decades so they are sure hits in terms of taste and execution.

I began with a wonderful lobster bisque which was finished off at the table with spoonfuls of Martell cognac. I order lobster bisque all the time, and this was an excellent version.

THE STORCHEN CLASSIC
OF HOME-SMOKED SALMON
Then, for my second course, I went for another Storchen classic: Scottish salmon smoked in-house and served with all the traditional condiments including capers, a small salad and some toast.
A TRADITIONAL SWISS DISH
OF VEAL WITH ROSTI
This is a great favorite among Storchen regulars, by the way, so that this home-smoked Scottish salmon is offered both as an appetizer and a main course.
I chose the appetizer portion, however, as I still wanted to have a traditional Swiss veal dish with rosti, which is basically a shredded fried potato pancake, afterwards.
A WALK BY THE RIVER IN ZURICH

Then, after a delicious dessert of berries and cream, we went for a walk by the river as it was a beautiful evening,  thus ending ever so wonderfully another delicious dinner in my never-endingly delicious #Travelife.
